Listen to the Voice.
Karol Józef Wojtyła heard a voice while shaving. It was a voice that came from Radio Free Europe. Illegal and banned by the Communist state, Karol Wojtyła listened anyway.
As Pope, John Paul II had the opportunity to meet with Jan Nowak, a fake name given to Zdzisław Antoni Jeziorański, who played a significant role in the Polish resistance during WW II. Nowak became one of the most admired and trusted emissaries for freedom in both the United States and Europe. When Jan Nowak said hello, the pope immediately said, “I know that voice!”. “It is the voice I listened to while shaving.” It was true. Jan Nowak was the head of the Polish section of Radio Free Europe.
There is much more to this story – including Jan Nowak’s wartime romance with Jadwiga Wolska (code name Greta), a woman held in extremely high regard by the western community for 50 years.
Throughout his entire ministry, from priest to pope, Karol Wojtyla taught us to “live in the truth.” Fr. Wojtyla told the Polish people oppressed by the communist that “living in the truth” was a way of real resistance to the state.
It can be no coincidence that the Catholic Medical Association of Central Guild has St. John Paull II as patron. All who practice the healing arts are called to hear this great Saint’s voice and to “live in the truth” in 21st century America. The state can make laws claiming “legal” status for certain “healthcare” practices. We must respond to these challenges of secularism and relativism with the truth of humanity. Listen to Saint John Paul II’s voice and “Be not afraid.” If you happen to meet him on the road to truth, you will see him pointing to Jesus. Listen, and you will hear Jesus voice, saying, “Be of good cheer. Be not afraid. It is I.”
